Almonds & Pistachio Milk Shake

This is a cool drink from North India. It is popular during the summer months. It is good as a substitute to breakfast. Use sweetener for diabetics. Serves 4

Ingredients

4 cups milk (use skimmed milk, if you want to reduce fat content)
1 cup sugar or artificial sweetener to taste
1 tbsp. almonds, blanched and peeled (you can use ready blanched ones)
1 tbsp. pistachios, blanched and peeled
1/2 tsp. green cardamom or illaichi powder
1/2 tsp. rose water Available from Indian stores. In UK, also available in supermarkets like Sainsbury's. If using rose essence concentrate, use only a few drops. You can use a few strands of saffron instead. Soak in 1 tbsp. of warm water for a few minute
A few fresh rose petals, if available. These are wild rose petals, insecticide free.
Few ice cubes

Instructions

1.Place all ingredients, except ice, in a blender and grind until smooth. It takes only a few seconds.
2.Place a couple of ice-cubes in each glass and pour over the milk shake.
3.Garnish with a few rose petals in each glass.
4.Serve immediately.

Notes

It can be made in advance and kept in the fridge. Don't add ice and rose petal garnish until just before serving.
