Millet Meal Halva for Children

Ragi is finger millet. It is a very nutritious cereal for children. Serves one child.

Ingredients

  • For one serving:

  • 1 heaped tsp. ground millet seeds

  • 1 cup milk (150 ml)

  • 1 tbsp. sugar

  • 1 tsp. ghee or butter

  • 1 banana-optional

  • 1 tbsp. raisins (only if baby is able to chew)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry millet seeds and dry roast in a wok or karahi. Allow to cool. (You can make larger quantities, say 100 gm., and store in a jar in your cupboard.)

  2. Grind to a fine powder in a grinder. You can make larger quantities and store in a jar.

  3. Cooking one serving

  4. Place ground millet in a small pan.

  5. Add milk, sugar and ghee. Mix and cook on slow heat until it becomes semi-solid, like halva. Stir continuously to avoid burning. More milk may be added if the mix is becoming too thick. Cook for at least 3-4 minutes.

  6. You can add mashed banana and raisins for extra taste and nutrition.

  7. Serve lukewarm.
